Lowther Castle & the Ten Thousand Daffodils

Lowther Castle has been on my to visit list for quite some time, being a member RHS, I noticed in one of their newsletters that there was an upcoming exhibition of ten thousand ceramic daffodils to be displayed in the castle grounds, thinking back to the poppies display that was once put on at the Tower of London, I decided that a visit was in order whilst this was going on, a further bonus of being an RHS member was that the visit would be free if I went on a certain day – which I did.

On a rather sunny and warm June day, I set of for the long(ish) drive up to the lake district.

I had no pre-information about the castle and was surprised to find it to be pretty much a ruin (albeit a “done-up” ruin), but it was still nevertheless still a fantastic structure to see (the history of the place is interesting too if you fancy a read – HERE)

The display of daffodils was great to see, but it did not quite live up to what I had imagined as it did not take up as much space as I would have expected – maybe they needed to add an extra zero onto the end of the number on display.

I did however manage to order a couple of the daffodils for when the exhibition ended (now proudly displayed in my garden).
