Determined to complete the Pink Passport within the year and also to embrace more of the Cornish mining heritage lead me to Easts Pool Mine.
A bit of information about the site is as follows:
At the very heart of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site sits the great beam engine in Taylor’s engine house, originally powered by high-pressure steam boilers introduced by local engineer Richard Trevithick.
Preserved in its towering engine house, as a reminder of Cornwall’s days as a world-famous centre of industry, engineering and innovation.
The pumping engine is one of the largest surviving Cornish beam engines in the world.
The site itself is quite odd really as it can be found right at the back of the Morrisons car park through a small gate, which is totally different to any place I had been to before.
The internal elements of the site can only be accessed by going on one of the guided tours, which normally I find quite difficult, however this time around it was thoroughly enjoyable as the guide was both engaging and very informative.
There is not really much to see inside the buildings and the tour takes less than an hour all told, but it was still worth the trip as I no doubt picked up more information than i would have done by just wandering around reading things.
