A Dam Fine Day

Some days work out even better than expected and this day was certainly one of them.

A good plan had been put in place to see a variety of places in the local area, starting off doing something that I thought I had long since retired from – visiting an abandoned building.

It has been a good few years since I have done any ‘Urbex’, for a variety of reasons, I think the main one being the whole scene is not what it used to be like, the buildings on offer are generally not as good as they used to be and due to the whole Youtube culture where these places are plastered around for the whole world to see, they generally get into a real state much quicker than they should do, with mindless vandalism and random tagging galore.

This place however was different, despite the fact it had been closed for a good few years, it was still in a good state with all the damage coming from mother nature only.

It was good to be back and a good hour was spent in the place slowly getting a feel for this sort of photography once again…who knows, this may not be me back in retirement for too long!

After this we popped into a local cafe and had a nice cooked breakfast before heading off to the last couple of places picked out for the day – a couple of reservoirs or dams not too far from where we started off the day.

I had been told these places were quite photogenic, especially the first one which had some nice reflection shots to be found of the electricity pylons.

The last reservoir/dam was something quite amazing, as I don’t think I have ever been that close to something like this before and it was certainly something to behold!

With the photos taken, the sun setting and the temperature quickly dropping, it was time to call it the end of a thoroughly enjoyable day.
